George the Younger was a native of Mitylene and he was a rich man, but he gave his money to the poor and entered a monastery. Not long after, he was appointed bishop! When Leo the Armenian became emperor, George stood up against the persecutions, but he was exiled to Chersonese and died there in 816.

    Ooh, what kind of persecutions? Given the year, I'm guessing Leo was an iconoclast. Am I right?

St. Anselm of Nonantola, Mar. 3

Source Anselm was a duke in earlier life, and he served his brother-in-law who was a king. He left for Rome to be a monk in around 753. He was later appointed abbot and given permission to inter Pope Sylvester's remains into his abbey. He died in 803, having been a Benedictine for fifty years.
